This year NZ Music Month celebrates its 7th year!

 

New Zealand Music Commission  Find news about whatís going on in the NZ music industry.  There are also some great NZ music resources. NZMC undertakes projects and partnerships for getting NZ music out into the world and assisting music businesses in working better.

 

Official NZ music chart  Not only does this site have the Top singles and weekly Top 40 but it also has information for NZ music artists.  Have you heard of the RAP (Recording artists and producers) fund?  If you are a NZ artist and have released a single, album, or video you may be eligible to receive payments from the RAP fund.  Anti-piracy and music awards are all covered in this site.

SOUNZ  SOUNZ is a music information centre whose purpose is to provide, foster and promote music by NZ composers to enhance the mana of all NZers and our sense of turangawaewae. The Centre was established in 1991 and is funded by Creative New Zealand, APRA (Australasian Performing Right Association) and also through PPNZ. The Centre is a not-for-profit charitable trust.

The Oxford history of New Zealand music by John Mansfield Thomson.  This comprehensive history of the diverse music of NZ, focuses on performance from colonial times to the formation of the national symphony orchestra in 1947, and composition from Alfred Hill in the early 1900s to the pinnacle of local composers in the 1970s. From two islands one sound emerges  Out of a music scene dominated by international artists rises a growing and exciting pool of native talent. Jennifer Perkin reports on the change in the New Zealand industry over the past decade.

Tide turns in favour of New Zealand talent  John Russell highlights key Kiwi successes over the past few years and reports on a Government-led initiative, which aims to plug home-grown talent in international territories.

A century of Maori song: a collection of words and music.  This book contains a collection of words and music for 56 popular, traditional and contemporary, Maori songs of the 20th century.  Songs include Haere Mai, Ka Mate! Amplifier - New Zealand music online  Learn about NZ music, catch up on NZ music news, listen to your favourite kiwi musicians, watch NZ music videos and purchase CDs and legal MP3 music downloads by kiwi artists. Started in 1999, they are the longest running legal music download site in NZ.

 

Ake, ake, kia kaha e! Songs of the New Zealand 28 Maori Battalion.  Radio New Zealand/Nga Taonga Korero recordings of the Battalion while it was in North Africa and southern Italy. There are spoken messages, situation reports, concert medleys aimed at tribal areas from which the men were drawn, a song of remembrance by Pacific Island members, and a previously undiscovered message from Princess Te Puea Herangi at a farewell concert in New Zealand. Natureís best: New Zealandís top 30 songs of all time.  Towards the end of 2001, the Australasian Performing Rights Association (APRA) celebrated their 75th Anniversary by giving it's 3000 members and an invited academy of 100 other voters the opportunity to vote for the 30 best songs composed by New Zealanders in it's history.  Every entry was then collated, from the song with the most votes down to the one with the least.
